Strengthening Ties: Indian Vice President Meets Sri Lankan Prime Minister

New Delhi, April 19: Indian Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan met with Sri Lankan Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya on Sunday, emphasizing the need to strengthen relations between the two nations. The discussion also highlighted increasing connectivity between the people of both countries.

Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal shared on social media platform X, “Sri Lankan Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya hosted Indian Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan during his visit to Sri Lanka.”

He further stated, “Recalling the shared civilizational heritage between the two countries, the leaders discussed the importance of enhancing bilateral relations, including people-to-people connections.”

Earlier, Vice President Radhakrishnan met with Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake at the Presidential Secretariat in Colombo, where they discussed strengthening bilateral and cultural ties.

During the meeting, Radhakrishnan reaffirmed India’s commitment to its Neighborhood Policy. Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal noted, “Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan had a fruitful discussion with Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake on deepening the multifaceted India-Sri Lanka relationship based on shared history and cultural values.”

He added, “The Vice President reiterated India’s commitment to its Neighborhood First Policy and the importance of enhancing cooperation for the benefit of both countries. The talks also focused on various initiatives, including the Indian Housing Project and projects under the $450 million package for areas affected by Cyclone Dithavah in Sri Lanka.”

Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan is on a two-day official visit to Sri Lanka from April 19-20. This marks the first official visit by an Indian Vice President to Sri Lanka.

Before departing for Sri Lanka, the Vice President’s office announced that Radhakrishnan was heading for a two-day official trip. During this visit, he will hold bilateral meetings and hand over homes built under the third phase of the Indian Housing Project to the Tamil community, supported by the Indian government.
