Rome, April 19: Two Indian nationals were shot dead in Covo, Italy. This tragic incident occurred as they were exiting a warehouse used as a place of worship. Local media reported the details on Sunday.
The shooting took place on Friday night near the Gurudwara Mata Sahib Kaur Ji in the industrial area of Bergamo, located in the Lombardy region. According to the Italian daily ‘La Sicilia’, the victims were identified as 48-year-old Raginder Singh, a resident of Covo, and Gurmeet Singh from Agnadello.
Authorities suspect that this may have been a premeditated attack. The assailant approached the victims, opened fire, and then fled the scene in a car. Initial investigations suggest that this was not a spontaneous altercation but rather a swift and lethal assault. Around ten empty shell casings were found at the scene, indicating that the attack was specifically aimed at the two individuals.
‘La Sicilia’ reported that an eyewitness claimed the shooter was also of Indian origin and frequented the same gurudwara. Some witnesses noted that a third person was injured during the attack.
The Sikh community in Lombardy and Bergamo is in shock following this incident. The bodies have been sent to Pavia for autopsy. Police are actively investigating the case, reviewing CCTV footage, interviewing witnesses, and gathering evidence.
Andrea Cappelletti, the mayor of Covo, stated that the local Sikh community has been peaceful and has lived without any issues for the past 15 years.
