New Delhi, February 11: Iqbal Ansari, a former party to the Babri Masjid case, expressed his support for the new guidelines issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs. These guidelines mandate that all six stanzas of ‘Vande Mataram‘ must be sung at government events and in schools. Ansari stated that this initiative is in the nation’s interest and should not face opposition.

In an interview, Ansari remarked, “This is a positive development. Everyone should recite ‘Vande Mataram.’ We do it too. There is nothing wrong with it. Some people try to find faults in everything.”

He further explained that this national song has been part of education since primary school. “We have learned it from primary to high school and intermediate levels. Now that the government has made it mandatory, it is a commendable step. Everyone should recite ‘Vande Mataram,’ and there should be no discrimination. It is essential alongside education. People have recited it in the past and will continue to do so.”

Responding to those opposing the proposal, Ansari said, “Whenever a good step is taken, some people raise objections.”

According to the new rules, ‘Vande Mataram’ will be sung before the national anthem during events. The ministry clarified that attendees must stand respectfully during the national anthem. However, these rules will not apply in cinemas when the song is played as part of a film or documentary.

Previously, there was no clear national protocol for ‘Vande Mataram,’ while rules existed for the national anthem. The government stated that this initiative aims to eliminate the distinction between ‘acceptable’ and ‘omitted’ verses, recognizing the complete composition originally written by Bankim Chandra Chatterjee.

These guidelines were issued by the Narendra Modi government in celebration of the 150th anniversary of ‘Vande Mataram,’ following extensive discussions in Parliament regarding its usage throughout the year.
