New Delhi, July 21: English club Ipswich Town has strengthened its squad ahead of the new Premier League season by signing Dutch goalkeeper Ken van Oevelen on a five-year contract from FC Volendam. The 22-year-old goalkeeper will join the first team at the ongoing pre-season training camp in La Manga, Spain, marking the beginning of his new journey in English football.
After joining the club, van Oevelen expressed his excitement, stating that being part of a prestigious club like Ipswich is a matter of pride for him. He said, “I am incredibly excited to be here. It’s special to have the opportunity to advance my career in England and learn from everyone at a big club like Ipswich. This is an exciting time for the club as the team returns to the Premier League. I look forward to meeting all my teammates and getting to work as soon as possible.”
Ipswich manager Gary O’Neil also welcomed the young goalkeeper, noting that van Oevelen will further strengthen the team’s goalkeeping department. He remarked, “We are pleased to have Ken join our team. Despite his youth, he has valuable experience in senior football. He performed excellently with Volendam and is now looking to take his career in a new direction in England. We believe he will be a key player for our goalkeeping unit.”
Standing at 6 feet 6 inches tall, van Oevelen began his football career at the youth academy of Amsterdamse FC. In 2021, he joined FC Volendam and became part of the first team in the 2024-25 season. He played a crucial role in helping the club win the Eerste Divisie title and gain promotion to the Eredivisie. Now, he is expected to showcase his talent with Ipswich Town and contribute to the club’s Premier League campaign.
