New Delhi, March 23: The 19th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is set to kick off on March 28. The opening match will feature Royal Challengers Bangalore against Sunrisers Hyderabad. As the tournament begins, all eyes will be on which player scores the most runs and who takes the most wickets this season.

In the history of the IPL, only four batsmen have managed to score over 800 runs in a single season.

Virat Kohli: Kohli holds the record for the most runs scored in a single IPL season. He is the only player to have exceeded 900 runs in one season. In IPL 2016, Kohli showcased his exceptional batting skills, amassing 973 runs at a strike rate of 152 across 16 matches. That season, he hit four centuries and seven half-centuries.

Shubman Gill: Following Kohli, Shubman Gill is the second batsman to score over 800 runs in a single IPL season. In IPL 2023, he scored 890 runs at a strike rate of 157, including three centuries and four half-centuries.

Jos Buttler: Playing for Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2022, Jos Buttler also had an outstanding season. He scored 863 runs at a strike rate of 149 over 17 matches, hitting four centuries and four half-centuries. His remarkable performance helped Rajasthan Royals reach the finals.

David Warner: A veteran in the IPL, David Warner is among the few batsmen who have scored over 800 runs in a single season. In IPL 2016, he scored 848 runs at a strike rate of 151 across 17 matches. Warner ranks fourth in the overall list of highest run-scorers in the IPL, having accumulated 6,565 runs in 184 matches.
