
Bengaluru, March 29: In the opening match of the 19th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2026), Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) set a formidable target of 202 runs for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), thanks to a blistering performance by captain Ishan Kishan.
The match took place at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, where RCB won the toss and opted to bowl first. SRH had a rocky start, losing both explosive openers, Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head, early on. Head managed only 11 runs, while Sharma was dismissed for 7. All-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy also struggled, scoring just 1 run. With SRH at 29 for 3, it was up to captain Ishan Kishan and Heinrich Klaasen to stabilize the innings.
Playing his first match as SRH captain, Kishan maintained his form from the T20 World Cup 2026, scoring a spectacular half-century. Although he fell short of a century, his leadership innings propelled Sunrisers Hyderabad to a respectable total. The left-handed batsman scored 80 runs off 38 balls, hitting 5 sixes and 8 fours.
Kishan and Klaasen formed a crucial partnership, adding 97 runs for the fourth wicket in just 53 balls. Klaasen contributed with 31 runs off 22 balls, including 2 fours and a six. Additionally, Aniket Verma, batting at number seven, played a remarkable innings, scoring 43 runs off just 18 balls, featuring 3 fours and 4 sixes. Thanks to these efforts, SRH finished their innings at 201 runs for the loss of 9 wickets in 20 overs.
Making his IPL debut, Jacob Duffy excelled with the ball for RCB, emerging as the most successful and economical bowler. He took 3 wickets for just 22 runs in 4 overs. Romario Shepherd had a costly outing, conceding 54 runs while also taking 3 wickets. Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Abhinandan Singh, and Suyash Sharma each claimed 1 wicket.
