Investigation Needed into Entire Network of Exam Scandal, Arrests Alone Wont Resolve Issue: Babulal Marandi

New Delhi, August 18: The political climate in Jharkhand has intensified over alleged irregularities in competitive exams and recruitment processes. Babulal Marandi, the Leader of the Opposition in Jharkhand, stated that while some arrests have been made, these alone will not uncover the full extent of the issue. Identifying the entire network behind the alleged malpractice and those who protected this system is crucial.

In a conversation, Marandi emphasized that arrests have been ongoing for some time. However, the critical question remains: who else is involved in this scandal? Those arrested may merely be ‘instruments’ within a larger framework. While their arrests are positive, it would be misleading to assume the matter ends there. Complaints of irregularities have surfaced in numerous exams and recruitment processes in Jharkhand over the past three to four years. Marandi cited the appointments of assistant professors, secondary school teachers, female supervisors, and various exams linked to the Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission (JSSC), noting that no exam has been exempt from scrutiny.

The Leader of the Opposition mentioned that after receiving reports from various delegations and candidates, he has encountered numerous complaints about irregularities in several exams. Conversations with candidates revealed that complaints about inconsistencies in different recruitment exams have been persistent. Marandi alleged that if similar irregularities have been reported across various exams over the years, it cannot be attributed to a single individual’s error. He described it as a case of an organized gang, asserting that such widespread irregularities cannot persist for long without significant protection.

He stressed that merely apprehending those at the lower levels will not complete the investigation. It is essential to determine how far the alleged financial misconduct in the exam and recruitment processes extends and who is behind it. The arrest of the Chairman of the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) has occurred, along with raids on their premises. According to Marandi, actions taken by investigative agencies have revealed some aspects of the case.

He also called for an investigation at the level of the JSSC. Marandi pointed out that Prashant Kumar, IAS, has been in charge as the JSSC Chairperson since 2024, and the investigation does not seem to have reached that level yet. He raised concerns about whether efforts are being made to shield those in high positions or alleged ‘white-collar’ individuals. If the investigation is limited to those who allegedly executed the exam irregularities, the entire network will remain undisclosed.

Marandi stated that if someone secured a job through financial means and is found guilty in the investigation, losing their job is expected. However, the bigger question concerns those who allegedly sold jobs for money and those whose protection or assistance allowed the entire system to operate. Candidates demand more than just arrests; they seek a fair and comprehensive investigation to uncover the roots of the alleged corruption in the exam process.

Supporting the call for a CBI investigation, Marandi noted that an inquiry by the central agency could probe the entire network, alleged financial transactions, individuals involved in the exam process, and potential high-level protection. The trust of Jharkhand’s youth in the fairness of recruitment exams is at stake. Repeated allegations of irregularities in exams impact the futures of millions of candidates. Therefore, mere arrests are insufficient; it is vital to identify and take action against those responsible by thoroughly investigating the matter.
