New Delhi, March 27: The five-day International Film Festival is currently taking place in New Delhi, aimed at promoting the Indian film industry and elevating cinema to new heights.
Artists from various countries, including those from South Indian cinema, are participating in the event. On the third day, filmmaker Rakesh Omprakash Mehra, actress Vani Tripathi, actor Ashish Vidyarthi, and Boman Irani shared their insights on cinema.
Rakesh Omprakash Mehra emphasized the deep connection between Delhi and cinema during a media interaction. He stated, “It is wonderful that an international film festival is being held in Delhi. This is essential because Delhi has a long-standing relationship with cinema. The National School of Drama is here, and Delhi has produced many great stars, writers, and musicians. Delhi nourishes Mumbai, much like an umbilical cord.”
He further added, “After this festival, young talents will not have to rush to Mumbai to seek opportunities, as Delhi will create its own avenues.”
Indian actress and writer Vani Tripathi remarked that Delhi embodies the magic of cinema. She noted the significant contribution of Delhi to cinema during the 70s, 80s, and 90s, and expressed hope that young people in and around Delhi will no longer feel the need to migrate to Mumbai for artistic opportunities. “Youngsters study in Delhi and often end up in Mumbai chasing their dreams, but now projects are being brought to Delhi, so you won’t have to wait long,” she said.
Actor Ashish Vidyarthi expressed his joy in being part of the festival and showcased his show ‘Kahaanibaaz.’ He reflected, “It’s heartening to see how many artists began their journey from Mandi House, and now this festival is happening just a short distance away. There used to be a theater near Pragati Maidan, Shakuntalam, where we would watch films for just four rupees. All those old memories are coming back.” He also praised the film ‘Dhurandhar-2,’ stating, “I usually don’t watch films, but ‘Dhurandhar-2’ has created new dimensions in cinema. Aditya Dhar has pioneered a new wave in filmmaking.”
Actor Boman Irani also participated in the festival and wished for its success. He remarked that a new beginning has emerged from Delhi, highlighting that discussions about films have taken place on significant platforms like the UN. This festival will provide a stage and opportunities for new artists, writers, and those dreaming of connecting with cinema.
