International Election Visitors Program Kicks Off with Delegates from 17 Countries

New Delhi, April 21: The Election Commission of India has officially launched the second phase of the International Election Visitors Program (IEVP) 2026 in the national capital on Tuesday.

This initiative is organized in the context of the upcoming general elections for the assemblies of Tamil Nadu and West Bengal. Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar inaugurated the program at the India International Institute of Democracy and Election Management (IIIDEM), highlighting it as a significant step towards global electoral collaboration.

In this second phase, a total of 34 representatives from 17 countries are participating, including delegates from various foreign missions based in Delhi and a representative from International IDEA. These delegates will visit Tamil Nadu and West Bengal from April 22 to 23. Previously, during the first phase, representatives toured Assam, Kerala, and Puducherry from April 8 to 9, where they observed electoral processes.

During the session at IIIDEM, delegates were shown a demonstration of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and were given a firsthand experience of the voting process. They participated in a mock poll to understand the use of EVMs. Throughout this experience, they expressed keen interest in technology-based measures and administrative controls within India’s electoral system. An interactive session with experts allowed them to address their questions and concerns.

As part of their upcoming visit, the delegates will inspect various election management centers in Tamil Nadu and West Bengal on April 22, including dispatch and distribution centers, district control rooms, and media monitoring centers. They will also observe the voting process on the morning of April 23, providing them with a ground-level understanding of India’s electoral systems.

The Election Commission’s International Election Visitors Program is a key initiative aimed at enhancing collaboration and engagement with electoral management bodies from other countries and international organizations.

This program not only showcases the transparency and robustness of India’s electoral system but also introduces foreign representatives to the best practices and innovations being adopted here. Through this initiative, India effectively presents its democratic framework’s capabilities and the excellence of its election management to the global community.
