Beijing, August 5: The 2026 International Anti-Terrorism Seminar, themed “Facing New Challenges of Terrorism: Strengthening National Responsibility and Uniting International Cooperation,” took place on Tuesday in Yili, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, northwest China.
Over 100 representatives from 24 countries and regional international organizations, including the United Arab Emirates, Russia, and the African Union, attended the seminar alongside officials from the Chinese Foreign Ministry, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, and Chinese think tanks and academic institutions.
During the seminar, China highlighted the resurgence of global terrorist activities, emphasizing the increasing pressure on countries in the Global South. According to China, the global development initiative, global security initiative, global civilization initiative, and global governance initiative proposed by President Xi Jinping provide essential guidance in addressing the challenges posed by terrorism.
China urged the international community to adopt comprehensive measures, uphold multilateralism, strengthen capacity building, and adhere to the rule of international law. Furthermore, China expressed its readiness to share its anti-terrorism experiences and collaborate with all parties to combat the threat of terrorism.
Participants noted that the current international anti-terrorism situation remains complex and severe. Geopolitical conflicts, economic imbalances, the misuse of emerging technologies, and limited capacities to combat terrorism are fueling terrorist activities.
Representatives also pointed out that some countries politicize the concept of terrorism, which hampers international cooperation. They stressed the need for all nations to fulfill their anti-terrorism responsibilities and strengthen mutual cooperation.
During the seminar, participants visited a special exhibition on anti-terrorism and extremism campaigns in Xinjiang, as well as an exhibition commemorating the 70th anniversary of the establishment of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. Foreign representatives praised Xinjiang’s development and achievements and expressed a desire to enhance cooperation with China.
