Indore, May 12: The ‘Guard of Honor’ initiative launched by the Madhya Pradesh government has led to a remarkable increase of over 25% in organ donation cases in Indore. Officials announced this development on Monday.
Initiated in July 2025, the program honors deceased organ donors during their funerals, recognizing their contributions and encouraging more families to consider organ donation.
Sudam Khade, the divisional commissioner of Indore, stated that this initiative has significantly raised awareness about organ donation and fostered social acceptance within the community.
Addressing a meeting with social media influencers at the divisional commissioner’s office, Khade noted that since the implementation of the ‘Guard of Honor’ protocol, organ donation cases have surged by more than 25%.
He emphasized that organ and body donation are noble acts that save the lives of critically ill patients. However, fears, superstitions, and a lack of awareness still deter many from making decisions related to organ donation.
Khade urged social media influencers to help raise awareness about organ donation through public campaigns and positive communication, dispelling misconceptions surrounding the topic.
He highlighted that Indore has emerged as the leading district in Madhya Pradesh for organ donations. The availability of air ambulance services in the state has also facilitated the timely transportation of organs for transplant procedures.
During the meeting, officials explained the organ donation process and shared details of successful transplant cases in the city. Khade mentioned that counseling donor families plays a crucial role in promoting organ donation and aiding families in their grieving process.
Sandipan Arya from the Muskaan Group revealed that the first ‘Green Corridor’ for organ transport in Indore was established in 2015. Since then, a total of 67 green corridors have been set up in the city to expedite the transportation of organs.
He added that Indore currently ranks second in the country for skin donations. The number of eye donations in the city increased from 2,237 in 2024 to 2,748 in 2025, while organ donation approvals rose from 135 to 202 in the same period.
Indore is home to three eye banks at present.
