The incident occurred due to shelling from the Israeli side, prompting Indonesia to demand a transparent investigation into the matter.
According to local media reports cited by the Xinhua news agency, initial reports indicated that UNIFIL personnel were injured during the attack on Sunday. Following the shelling, UNIFIL helicopters were seen heading to the scene.
This incident comes amid ongoing gunfire and rising tensions along the Lebanon-Israel border.
UNIFIL released a statement on the social media platform X, confirming the tragic death of a peacekeeper due to a projectile explosion near Adchit al-Qusayr. Another peacekeeper was reported to be seriously injured. The statement emphasized that no one should lose their life while working for peace.

Additionally, it stated, “Deliberate attacks on peacekeepers are serious violations of international human rights law and Security Council Resolution 1701, and they may constitute war crimes. There have been numerous fatalities on both sides of the Blue Line. There is no military solution to this conflict. Violence must end.”
