
New Delhi, March 28: An Indigo flight from Visakhapatnam to Delhi was forced to make an emergency landing today. Fortunately, the landing was executed in time, averting a potential disaster. According to police reports, the flight experienced a situation akin to engine failure. Thankfully, it landed safely at Indira Gandhi International Airport.
The fire department confirmed that all passengers are safe and there were no injuries. They received notification of the emergency landing at 10:53 AM. Fire trucks were dispatched immediately, and the flight landed without incident. The Indigo flight 6E 579 was approaching Delhi when the emergency call was made. An emergency was declared at 10:39 AM, and the flight successfully landed at 10:53 AM with 161 passengers on board, all of whom were safely evacuated.
An Indigo spokesperson stated, βOn March 28, 2026, our flight 6E 579 from Visakhapatnam to Delhi encountered a technical issue just before landing. As a precaution and in accordance with standard operating procedures, the pilots requested priority landing, and the aircraft safely landed at Indira Gandhi International Airport, Delhi. All relevant authorities have been promptly informed, and necessary inspections and maintenance are underway. The safety of our customers and crew is our top priority.β
It is worth noting that on February 24, 2026, a SpiceJet flight also made a safe landing at Delhi IGI Airport due to a technical issue. The crew of SpiceJet flight SG121 detected a malfunction, prompting the flight to return. After landing safely in Delhi, all passengers were evacuated without incident. Additionally, on November 9, 2025, a SpiceJet flight from Mumbai to Kolkata had to make an emergency landing due to engine failure, with all passengers and crew safe.
On September 12, 2025, a SpiceJet Q400 flight from Kandla Airport in Gujarat also had to make a similar emergency landing at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport.
