China leads the overall medal tally in the Asian Games, boasting 1,674 gold, 1,105 silver, and 791 bronze medals, totaling 3,570. Japan and South Korea are the only other nations to surpass the 1,000 medal mark, with over 3,200 and 2,400 medals, respectively.
In the 1951 Asian Games, India secured second place, winning a total of 51 medals: 15 gold, 16 silver, and 20 bronze. In 2023, India achieved a historic milestone, reaching a total of 107 medals for the first time. The country earned 28 gold, 38 silver, and 41 bronze medals during the latest Games.
Since 1951, India has crossed the 50-medal mark six times. The medal counts include 57 in 1982, 53 in 2006, 65 in 2010, 57 in 2014, 70 in 2018, and 107 in 2023.
Overall, India has won 779 medals in the history of the Asian Games, with athletics contributing the highest count: 85 gold, 102 silver, and 96 bronze medals. In shooting, India has claimed 80 medals, including 16 gold, 30 silver, and 34 bronze. Wrestling has brought home 65 medals, comprising 11 gold, 15 silver, and 39 bronze. Additionally, boxing has contributed 62 medals, with 9 gold, 17 silver, and 36 bronze.
In tennis, India has won a total of 34 medals, including 10 gold, 7 silver, and 17 bronze. The rowing team has secured 28 medals, with 2 gold, 7 silver, and 19 bronze. In sailing, India has achieved 23 medals, consisting of 1 gold, 8 silver, and 14 bronze.
