India’s Monetary and Financial Sector Shows Strong Growth Amid Global Uncertainty

New Delhi: Despite unstable global geopolitical conditions and rapid technological changes, India’s monetary and financial sector demonstrated robust performance during the financial year 2026 (April to December 2025), according to the Economic Survey presented by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.

The survey highlighted that regulatory innovation, transparency, and accountability are key to addressing challenges posed by global uncertainties. It stressed the need for new and inclusive domestic financial instruments to shield against external financial volatility.

India’s financial regulatory framework endorses the historic guidelines issued by the Reserve Bank of India in May 2025. This framework institutionalises transparent, consultative, and impact-focused monetary management regulations.

According to the Economic Survey, India’s monetary management balances precise economic objectives with broader social goals. The quality of financial sector regulation has emerged as a critical factor for economic resilience and sustainable development. While maintaining price stability, monetary policy supports financial stability and promotes inclusive growth, underpinning the country’s sustainable progress and economic prosperity.

With easing inflation, the Reserve Bank of India’s Monetary Policy Committee reduced the repo rate and cash reserve ratio, ensuring liquidity through open market operations. These measures aimed to boost credit flow, investment, and overall economic activity, effectively translating into lower lending rates.

Throughout the financial year 2026, RBI’s liquidity management maintained adequate liquidity in the banking sector, aligning currency and credit markets with economic productivity needs. Scheduled commercial banks continued to show dynamic movements in lending and deposit rates amid sufficient liquidity.
