New Delhi, June 16: The Indian women’s cricket team has made a strong start in the Women’s T20 World Cup 2026. They kicked off their campaign with a victory against Pakistan on Sunday. The team’s second group stage match is against the Netherlands, and they have now arrived in Leeds for the game.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) shared a video on X showcasing the team’s journey from Birmingham to Headingley. In the video, players including Jemimah Rodrigues, Shreyanka Patil, Smriti Mandhana, and Shefali Verma shared their thoughts about their teammates.
Smriti Mandhana praised Arundhati Reddy, stating, “She inspires me to prepare and do the right things on the ground.” Arundhati reciprocated, saying, “One great thing about Smriti is that whenever I travel abroad, she chooses the best places to eat, and the food is usually excellent. So, if anyone wants to know where to go and what to see, they should ask her.”
When asked about Shreyanka, Jemimah expressed, “What I love most about Shreyanka is that she is genuinely caring. She looks after the people around her.” Shreyanka affectionately referred to Jemimah as “Jamie,” adding, “There are many good things about her, but what I particularly like is that she surprises me. When I’m sitting somewhere, she brings gifts or something else because I love surprises.”
In the video, Shefali mentioned that fast bowler Renuka Singh Thakur has a fondness for soft toys. Deepti Sharma noted that wicketkeeper-batter Richa Ghosh is well-informed about the country or city they are traveling to.
The match between India and the Netherlands is scheduled for Wednesday at 7 PM in Leeds, Headingley.
