
Bhopal, May 20: The Indian U-18 women’s hockey team secured a resounding 4-1 victory against Australia in the fourth and final match of their series on Wednesday at the Uddhav Das Mehta (Bhai Ji) Central SAI Centre.
Australia took an early lead with a goal from Aurora Kovacevic in the 8th minute. However, the Indian team quickly responded, with captain Sweety Kujur equalizing in the 13th minute before the end of the first quarter.
In the second quarter, Diya scored in the 25th minute, putting India ahead 2-1 at halftime.
Maintaining their momentum in the second half, Priyanka Minj extended India’s lead to 3-1 with a goal in the 44th minute. Naushin Naz capped off the scoring with another goal in the 50th minute, sealing the match at 4-1.
This victory is significant for the Indian team, boosting their confidence ahead of the U-18 Asia Cup set to begin in Japan at the end of this month.
Despite this win, Australia claimed the series 3-1. India faced defeats in the first three matches, losing 3-4, 1-4, and 1-2 respectively.
Although the Indian team struggled initially, they showcased strong performances, challenging the Australian squad in tightly contested matches. The fourth match saw India dominate, finishing the series on a high note with their impressive 4-1 win.
