Indian Team to Explore Future Prospects in Crude Oil with Venezuela: Hardeep Singh Puri

New Delhi, June 5: India’s Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri recently met with Venezuela’s interim President Delcy Rodríguez. During this meeting, both leaders engaged in discussions regarding the oil and energy sectors.

Minister Puri highlighted that Venezuela has been one of India’s largest crude oil suppliers in April and May 2026. He also announced that a team from India will travel to Venezuela for an in-depth analysis of future opportunities in crude oil.

On social media platform X, Minister Puri stated, “I met with Delcy Rodríguez, interim President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, alongside the CMD of India’s energy sector PSUs. India has maintained a long-standing energy partnership with Venezuela since 2008, sharing significant compliments with the country.”

He further emphasized, “Venezuela possesses the largest oil reserves globally, while India not only has a high demand for energy but also the technical expertise and manpower to refine Venezuelan crude in our refineries. Venezuela has been one of India’s top crude oil suppliers in April and May 2026, indicating promising future prospects. Our technical team will soon visit Venezuela to explore these opportunities further.”

Previously, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi also met with President Rodríguez. PM Modi remarked that as a key partner in Latin America, close cooperation with Venezuela is essential for the Global South.

On social media, PM Modi expressed, “It was a pleasure meeting with Delcy Rodríguez. We discussed enhancing our collaboration in energy, essential minerals, technology, agriculture, health, and people-to-people connections.”

He added that as a significant partner in Latin America, strong cooperation with Venezuela is crucial for the Global South. “We will continue to work together for the mutual benefit of our countries’ people,” he stated.

Earlier, Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal shared information on social media about the meeting. He noted that the discussions focused on new opportunities for collaboration in critical areas such as energy security, trade, investment, healthcare, and the automobile industry. Both nations emphasized strengthening economic and technical partnerships for long-term benefits.
