
New Delhi, April 14: The Indian stock market will be closed today in observance of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Jayanti. No trading activities will take place on this day.
According to the exchange’s holiday calendar, trading will be completely halted across equity, derivatives, and the Securities Lending and Borrowing (SLB) segments. Normal trading operations will resume on Wednesday.
Additionally, the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) will be closed from 9 AM to 5 PM, but trading will continue in the evening session from 5 PM to 11:30/11:55 PM. In contrast, the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange (NCDEX) will remain closed for the entire session.
Following today, the Indian stock market will also be closed on May 1 for Maharashtra Day and again on May 28 for Bakra Eid.
While the Indian stock market is closed, international markets remain open. Most Asian markets are experiencing gains, with Tokyo, Seoul, and Jakarta seeing increases of over two percent.
On Monday, the Indian stock market closed in the red due to weak global signals amid ongoing tensions in West Asia. The benchmark BSE Sensex fell by 702.68 points, or 0.91 percent, closing at 76,847.57.
Similarly, the NSE Nifty 50 dropped by 207.95 points, or 0.86 percent, ending at 23,842.65. During the day’s trading, the Sensex had dipped by 1,682 points, or 2.1 percent, reaching a low of 75,868.32, while the Nifty fell by 495 points, or 2 percent, to a low of 23,555.60.
In broader markets, the Nifty Midcap 100 index recorded a decline of 0.57 percent, and the Nifty Smallcap 100 index fell by 0.46 percent.
