Indian Grandmaster Divya Deshmukh to Debut at Norway Chess Women 2026

Indian Grandmaster Divya Deshmukh is set to make her debut at the Norway Chess Women tournament in 2026. With this, she will become the youngest participant in the event since its inception in 2024, making history.

In an official statement released by Norway Chess, Divya expressed her excitement: “I am incredibly thrilled to compete in Norway Chess. This is my first opportunity to play in this tournament. I am really looking forward to experiencing Norway and this unique format. I cannot wait to compete in such a prestigious event. Thank you to all my fans for their love and support. I look forward to meeting you all there.”

Sharing the news on its official ‘X’ handle, Norway Chess stated, “A new name joins Norway Chess Women 2026. Divya Deshmukh will compete in Norway Chess Women. In 2025, Divya won the FIDE Women’s World Cup, earned the Grandmaster title, and qualified for the Women’s Candidates 2026. At 19 years old, she became the fourth Indian woman to achieve the Grandmaster title. She also won individual and team gold medals with India at the recent Chess Olympiad. In Oslo, she will be the youngest player to compete in Norway Chess Women so far.”

Benedicte Vestre Skoga, COO of Norway Chess, said in a statement, “India continues to produce outstanding young chess talents, and Divya is a brilliant example of this. We are delighted to welcome her to Norway Chess Women. We look forward to engaging with the growing Indian chess audience through her debut in Oslo.”

Divya Deshmukh’s achievements in 2025 include winning the FIDE Women’s World Cup, earning the Grandmaster title, and securing a spot in the 2026 Women’s Candidates Tournament. Becoming the fourth Indian woman to earn the Grandmaster title at just 19 reflects India’s rising stature in international chess.

On the international stage, Divya has established herself as one of the most promising young players of her generation by winning both individual and team gold medals representing India.
