New Delhi, September 14 (Daily Kiran) : The Ministry of Commerce in India is establishing a new Central Processing Department (CPD) at the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) to enhance trade facilitation for exporters and importers. This initiative aims to promote a faceless and paperless trade environment.
According to an official memorandum from the DGFT, the CPD will serve as a central unit for processing trade-related applications. It will be located within the central licensing area in Delhi. The memorandum indicates that the system is expected to be dedicated to the nation during the second half of October 2026.
This faceless trade facilitation system is a significant government initiative designed to enable the jurisdiction-free processing of trade applications. It is anticipated to reduce processing times, enhance transparency, and improve ease of doing business for exporters and importers.
The new unit will incorporate officials and staff from the DGFT headquarters and its regional authorities. A total of 53 DGFT officials from Delhi and regional centers have been assigned or transferred to the department, including five joint DGFTs, ten deputy DGFTs, and seven assistant DGFTs.
The competent authority has been instructed to immediately deploy and transfer officials to the Central Processing Department in the Central Licensing Area in Delhi. These officials are expected to be relieved of their current duties by September 30 and report to the DGFT headquarters for orientation and training on October 5. Upon completion of the training program, they will assume their roles in the CPD.
The heads of the relevant regional authorities and the respective divisions of the DGFT are tasked with ensuring that officials are relieved of their duties without exception by the specified date. They must also ensure that pending files and case records are handed over systematically. The memorandum further states that requests to maintain, suspend, or amend appointments will not be considered.
