Indian Cricket Team Celebrates Historic ICC T20 World Cup Victory

New Delhi, March 8: The Indian cricket team made history on Sunday by winning the ICC T20 World Cup trophy for the second consecutive time and the third overall. Under the captaincy of Suryakumar Yadav, the team triumphed over New Zealand by a significant margin of 96 runs in the final match. This remarkable achievement has sparked a wave of congratulations from both the sports and political arenas.

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge took to social media platform ‘X’ to express his admiration, stating, “Heartfelt congratulations to Team India for their spectacular victory over New Zealand in the T20 World Cup final. Tonight, 1.4 billion Indians are filled with pride. Captain Suryakumar Yadav led with determination and confidence. Sanju Samson emerged as the hero of the final, while Ishan Kishan played the role of the unsung hero. The contributions from Hardik Pandya, Tilak Varma, Shivam Dube, Axar Patel, Arshdeep Singh, Varun Chakravarthy, Abhishek Sharma, and Jasprit Bumrah were pivotal in this historic win. I wish the entire team a bright future.”

Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi also shared his thoughts on ‘X’, saying, “Congratulations and best wishes to Team India for becoming champions for the second time by defeating New Zealand in the T20 World Cup final. Throughout the tournament, the Indian team showcased remarkable discipline, courage, and teamwork, filling the entire nation with pride and joy. In the final, the players collectively delivered an outstanding performance, maintaining composure under pressure to secure the win. This historic victory is a moment of pride for millions of Indians. Congratulations to all citizens, and I wish the entire Team India and support staff a bright future.”

Former Chief Minister of Rajasthan and senior Congress leader Ashok Gehlot echoed similar sentiments, congratulating the team for their disciplined and courageous display throughout the tournament, which filled the country with pride and happiness.

West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress (TMC) supremo Mamata Banerjee also congratulated the team, stating, “Congratulations to Team India! We are proud of your fantastic victory in the T20 World Cup final.”

It is noteworthy that the Indian team claimed the T20 World Cup 2026 title at the Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium, where they set a formidable target of 256 runs. New Zealand was bowled out for 159 runs in just 19 overs while chasing this target.
