Indian Boxer Parveen Secures Medal Spot at Asian Games with Dominant Victory

Parveen Hooda advances to the semifinals at the Asian Games, ensuring a medal for India after defeating Uzbekistans Khomidova 5-0.

Nishio, September 27 (Daily Kiran) : Indian boxer Parveen Hooda has secured her place in the semifinals of the 2026 Asian Games, clinching a medal for India in the women’s 65-kilogram category. She achieved this feat by defeating Uzbekistan’s Navbakhor Khomidova with a decisive 5-0 score on Sunday at the Nishio Gymnasium.

Parveen showcased her strategic prowess throughout the match. Utilizing her reach and speed, she kept Khomidova at bay while landing precise punches at critical moments. The silver medalist from the 2025 World Championships struggled to make an impact, while Parveen effectively employed quick combinations and counter-attacks, winning over all five judges on the scorecards.

Khomidova started aggressively, finding some success with her left hook in the first round, forcing Parveen to play defensively. However, Parveen responded with a swift ‘one-two’ combination and selective counter-attacks, taking the lead in the round. The judges scored it 4-1 in her favor.

The second round mirrored the first, with Khomidova attempting to increase the pressure. Yet, Parveen maintained her distance and capitalized on opportunities when the Uzbek boxer advanced. Her rapid counter-attacks solidified her position, allowing her to win the round 5-0. After two rounds, Parveen was ahead 20-18 on four judges’ cards, while one judge had it tied at 19-19.

Despite being close to victory, Parveen remained composed in the final round. Khomidova altered her strategy, retreating before attempting counterattacks. However, Parveen’s movement and reach allowed her to land accurate strikes at the right moments. The final exchanges saw both boxers trading punches, but Parveen ultimately secured a unanimous 5-0 victory.

This win marks Parveen’s return to the Asian Games podium after her bronze medal from the 2022 Hangzhou Games was stripped due to a doping violation. Before participating in the Aichi-Nagoya campaign, she made her comeback in international competition, reaching the quarterfinals of the 2026 Commonwealth Games.
