Anahat Singh, 18, wins silver in womens singles squash, becoming Indias first female silver medalist at the Asian Games.

Nagoya, September 27 (Daily Kiran) : In a remarkable achievement, 18-year-old Anahat Singh secured a silver medal in women’s singles squash at the Asian Games held in Nagoya on September 27, 2026. This victory makes her the first Indian woman to earn a silver medal in this category. Despite her commendable performance, Anahat faced defeat in the finals against Malaysia’s reigning champion, Shivangari Subramaniam, with scores of 4-11, 4-11, and 7-11.
The loss also meant Anahat missed a crucial opportunity to qualify directly for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, where squash will be featured for the first time. Competing at the Kinjo Futo Arena, Anahat struggled against her more experienced opponent, losing the first game 4-11.
Shivangari maintained her dominance with a strong offensive and defensive strategy, leading Anahat to lose the second game by the same score. In the third game, Anahat managed to score 7 points, but Shivangari’s skill secured her victory.
Earlier in the tournament, Anahat made headlines by defeating world number six, Satomi Watanabe, in the semifinals, becoming the first Indian woman to reach the finals of the Asian Games women’s singles squash event.
India’s Abhay Singh also claimed a silver medal in the men’s singles squash, falling to Malaysia’s reigning champion, Eain Yow Ng, with scores of 11-9, 11-5, and 11-5. Like Anahat, Abhay missed out on a direct qualification for the LA 2028 Olympics due to his final match loss.
