
New Delhi, September 1: Major auto manufacturing companies in India released their sales figures for August 2026 on Tuesday. Both passenger and commercial vehicle sales have shown robust growth during this period.
Hyundai Motor India reported sales of 65,796 units in August, marking an annual increase of 8.8%. Domestic sales accounted for 54,396 units, reflecting a strong 23.6% rise compared to the previous year. Exports were approximately 11,400 units.
Tarun Garg, Managing Director and CEO of Hyundai Motor India Limited, stated, “We are maintaining strong growth in the fiscal year 2027. From April to August, domestic sales have increased by 12.6% year-on-year.”
He further noted that logistics challenges related to conflicts in West Asia and the broader geopolitical environment impacted exports. However, he expressed optimism that improvements in geopolitical conditions would lead to better export performance in the coming months.
Tata Motors reported total sales of 44,411 units (domestic and international) in August, a 49% increase from last year. The company noted that domestic sales of Medium, Heavy, and Intermediate Commercial Vehicles (MH&ICVs) reached 17,531 units, up 31% from the previous year, while total domestic and international sales of MH&ICVs were 18,920 units, a 29% increase.
Mahindra & Mahindra Limited announced that its total sales in the truck and bus segment (commercial vehicles over 3.5 tons) reached 2,495 units, a 47% increase compared to last year, including exports.
Vinod Sahay, Executive Chairman of SML Mahindra and President of Mahindra’s truck, bus, and commercial vehicle business, stated that this segment continues to benefit from increased infrastructure spending, rising demand for freight transport, and the need to replace older vehicles.
