High Inflation Acts as a Tax, Says RBI Governor at NDTV Summit
RBI Governor discussed the implications of high inflation, likening it to a tax affecting everyone.

The Governor of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) equated high inflation to a tax imposed on the entire population during a discussion at the NDTV World Summit. He emphasized that inflation diminishes the purchasing power of consumers, affecting their daily lives and savings.
The RBI Governor pointed out that controlling inflation is crucial for economic stability. He remarked, “High inflation is like a tax on everyone,” stressing the need for effective measures to manage rising prices.
In his address, he acknowledged the challenges posed by global economic conditions but affirmed the RBI’s commitment to maintaining financial stability. The Governor stated that the central bank does not target any specific level for the Indian rupee; instead, it focuses on reducing volatility in the currency market.
The discussion also touched on broader economic issues, with the Governor indicating that sustained inflation could hamper economic growth. He called for collaborative efforts among policymakers to promote a stable economic environment.
