Nishin, September 22 (Daily Kiran) : The Indian women’s cricket team is set to face Sri Lanka in the final of the 2026 Asian Games, taking place at Korogi Sports Park. Captain Harmanpreet Kaur won the toss and elected to bat first.
India has shown remarkable form throughout the tournament. Under Kaur’s leadership, the team remains unbeaten, securing their spot in the final. Shafali Verma has been in excellent form, having played a stunning innings in the semi-final against Bangladesh, where she scored a century.
However, Smriti Mandhana, who was in great shape during the Asia Cup, has only managed 37 runs in two matches so far. The team will be looking for a strong performance from her in this crucial match. The bowling duo of Shree Charni and Deepti Sharma has posed a significant challenge for opposing batsmen. Charni has taken six wickets across two matches, while Sharma has claimed four.
On the other hand, Sri Lanka aims to avenge their earlier defeat to India in the Asia Cup final. They secured their place in this title match by defeating Pakistan by eight wickets in the semi-finals. Captain Chamari Athapaththu is in fine form, having scored 83 runs off 50 balls in the semi-final, which included seven fours and six sixes. She has amassed 146 runs in two matches so far, with contributions from Hasina Perera and Harshitha as well.
