Chandigarh, June 6: India is set to face Afghanistan in a single Test match starting Saturday at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur. Indian captain Shubman Gill won the toss and opted to bat first.
Manav Suthar is making his Test debut for the Indian team in this match. After winning the toss, Gill stated, “We will bat first. It’s very hot and humid. The ball will get slower and lower. Playing at this ground is very special for me as I grew up playing here. Captaining here is a significant achievement. Our preparation has been good, and I’ve had some restful nights. We have nine Test matches ahead, and we need to perform well on home soil. It’s about finding the right combination. Manav Suthar is making his debut.”
After losing the toss, Afghanistan’s captain Hashmatullah Shahidi expressed, “We also wanted to bat first as the wicket looks good. We aim to play quality cricket and are ready for the challenge. We enjoy challenges. Our preparation camp in Kabul was productive. We are playing with three fast bowlers and two spinners. Nangyalai Kharote is also making his debut.”
