Will Vaibhav Suryaanshi Get a Chance in Ranchi T20? Sanju Samsons Form Under Scrutiny

Ranchi, October 9 (Daily Kiran) : The second match of the five-match T20 series between India and West Indies is set to take place in Ranchi on Friday. A key question looms: will wicketkeeper-batsman Sanju Samson retain his spot in the playing eleven, or will Vaibhav Suryaanshi take his place?

While there has never been doubt about Samson’s talent, his recent performances have raised concerns. After impressing with two half-centuries against Afghanistan, he has struggled to make an impact. In the Asian Games, he scored only 9 runs off 7 balls against Japan, 7 runs off 9 balls against Sri Lanka, and just 2 runs off 4 balls in the final against Pakistan. His performance in the first T20 against West Indies was also lackluster, managing only 11 runs off 9 balls.

Following four consecutive poor outings, questions about Samson’s position in the team have intensified, with calls for Vaibhav Suryaanshi to be included in the squad. Critics have noted that Samson has been dismissed playing weak shots, further fueling the debate about his future in the lineup.

India’s head coach, Gautam Gambhir, expressed support for Samson prior to the West Indies series, suggesting he may still feature in the Ranchi T20. Should Samson be dropped, Suryaanshi would likely open the innings alongside Abhishek Sharma, while Ishan Kishan would take on wicketkeeping duties.

India currently leads the series 1-0 after a convincing victory in the first T20 in Lucknow, where captain Shreyas Iyer scored an explosive unbeaten 103 runs off just 43 balls.
