New Delhi: India and the United States are actively engaged in ongoing trade talks, with the next round of discussions scheduled for Tuesday. This was stated by the newly appointed US Ambassador to India, Sergio Gore, on Monday.
Speaking to staff and reporters at the US Embassy, Gore conveyed that US President Donald Trump has sent his best wishes to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Strong India-US Relations Beyond Trade
Ambassador Gore emphasized that the friendship between Prime Minister Modi and President Trump is genuine. He noted that the relationship between India and the US is not only based on mutual interests but is also built on ties at the highest levels.
He added, “True friends may disagree on several issues, but ultimately they resolve their differences.”
Collaboration Across Multiple Sectors
Gore highlighted the importance of trade between the two countries. Beyond commerce, India and the US continue to collaborate on security, counter-terrorism, energy, technology, education, and health sectors.
Despite differences over tariffs and market access, both nations maintain active communication to address these challenges.
India Invited to Join ‘Pax Silica’ Initiative
The ambassador announced that India has been invited to join the new ‘Pax Silica’ initiative as a full member next month. Launched by the US last month, this group aims to develop a secure, prosperous, and innovation-driven supply chain covering essential minerals, energy inputs, advanced manufacturing, semiconductors, AI development, and logistics.
Countries such as Japan, South Korea, the United Kingdom, and Israel are already part of this group. India’s inclusion is expected to strengthen the initiative further.
Gore’s remarks helped clarify earlier confusion arising from comments made by US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, who suggested that trade talks stalled because Prime Minister Modi had not called President Trump. The Ministry of External Affairs dismissed these claims as inaccurate.
MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal stated, “India is interested in a mutually beneficial trade deal between two complementary economies and hopes to successfully conclude it.”
