New Delhi, February 8: The Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) announced on Sunday that the finalization of the first phase of the India-U.S. trade deal will open new and significant opportunities for India’s micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in the American market.
CAIT stated that this trade deal, achieved under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, marks a significant milestone for India. It propels the nation towards becoming a global economic power and is expected to greatly benefit the MSME sector. This agreement reinforces India’s identity as a strong, reliable, and competitive trade partner on the world stage.
Praveen Khandelwal, Secretary General of CAIT, emphasized that several key sectors in India would benefit from this trade deal. These include textiles and ready-made garments, leather and footwear, gems and jewelry, affordable medicines, automobiles and aircraft parts, chemicals, plastic and rubber products, home decor, handicrafts, and certain engineering goods.
He noted that improved access to the U.S. market and tariff enhancements would make Indian products more competitive in the world’s largest economy.
Khandelwal remarked that this agreement is timely and crucial support for the MSME sector, which is the backbone of India’s economy. He added that increased export opportunities would enable MSME companies to boost production, expand their businesses abroad, and create new job opportunities for youth and women.
The trade deal will also strengthen the ‘Make in India’ initiative, as it positions Indian companies as key players in the global supply chain.
Khandelwal stated that the agreement also safeguards India’s national interests, particularly in agriculture and rural areas, demonstrating that the government’s trade policy is balanced and farmer-friendly.
Overall, he described the India-U.S. trade agreement as a visionary initiative that will accelerate exports, promote entrepreneurship, and bring India closer to its goals of ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ (self-reliant India) and ‘Developed India.’
CAIT is a leading national organization representing over 90 million traders and more than 40,000 trade associations across the country. Established in 1998, it advocates for the interests of small traders and shopkeepers, acting as a bridge between the government and the trading community to foster the growth of small and medium enterprises.
