Jaipur, May 20: Following successful launches in cities like New Delhi, Lucknow, Mumbai, and Chandigarh, the cooperative model taxi service, ‘India Taxi’, is set to expand to Jaipur. The service is scheduled to begin in the first week of June.
The primary goal of this initiative is to provide affordable and safe transportation for passengers while ensuring better income and ownership opportunities for taxi drivers.
Gautam Kumar Dak, the Minister of State for Cooperatives in Rajasthan, announced on Wednesday that India’s first cooperative model taxi service, ‘India Taxi’, will soon commence operations in Jaipur. This service aims to strengthen the economic conditions of drivers while offering the public reliable transport.
While addressing drivers at the ‘India Taxi Dialogue’ event held at the Apex Bank auditorium in Jaipur, Dak mentioned that after its launch in major cities, the service is now ready to expand to Jaipur and other locations.
He emphasized that ‘India Taxi’ is a unique initiative where taxi drivers will own the company instead of a private corporate entity.
The service is founded on four key principles: ownership, safety, respect, and equitable profit-sharing. Drivers will be the true owners of the company, and no driver’s account will be suspended without giving them a chance to voice their concerns.
Dak also noted that this service will liberate drivers from hidden fees and arbitrary practices imposed by private companies.
According to the minister, the cooperative taxi model will provide drivers with better options and improve their confidence, livelihood, and economic status. He urged drivers to raise awareness about ‘India Taxi’ and encourage more people to join this initiative.
Drivers welcomed the launch of ‘India Taxi’, stating that this service, operated through indigenous cooperative institutions, will ensure that profits remain within the country. They also expressed that this initiative will help them avoid arbitrary membership fees imposed by private companies.
