India Shines at Asian Under-20 Athletics Championship with Gold in Womens 4x400m Relay

Hong Kong, May 31: India concluded the 22nd Asian Under-20 Athletics Championship on a high note, securing three gold medals on the final day, including a meet record in the women’s 4×400 meters relay. China led the medal tally with 25 medals, comprising 14 golds. India finished second overall with a total of 19 medals: 10 gold, 5 silver, and 4 bronze. Japan claimed third place with 18 medals.

The standout moment of the final day came from the women’s 4×400 meters relay team, where Neeru Pathak, Bhoomika Sanjay Nehte, Tahura Khatun, and Sehanur Bawa set a new championship record of 3:38.07 seconds to win gold.

India also excelled in the men’s 4×400 meters relay, with Piyush Raj, Syed Sabir, Ranjit Kumar S, and Mohammad Ashfaque clocking 3:05.54 seconds to secure a bronze medal, setting a new Indian under-20 national record. China won gold with a time of 3:04.88, while Qatar took silver at 3:05.06.

The medal rush began in the morning session, with Muskaan winning gold in the women’s 5,000 meters with a time of 16:53.08 seconds. India’s second individual gold came from Venkataram Reddy Mogli, who triumphed in the men’s 800 meters with a personal best of 1:48.27 seconds.

In field events, Nishchay earned a silver medal in the men’s discus throw with a personal best of 60.10 meters, setting a new Indian under-20 national record. He became the first Indian under-20 athlete to surpass the 60-meter mark in this event.

The women’s 4×100 meters relay team added another silver medal to India’s tally. Kajal Hirabhai Waja, Bhavna Ji, Aarti, and Nipam made a strong comeback in the final stages of the race, finishing in 45.05 seconds.

On the other hand, the men’s 4×100 meters relay team finished sixth with a time of 40.11 seconds, featuring Rudra Sachin Shinde, Mehebubul Ahmed, Aditya Tatyapisal, and Nived Krishna Jyotiprakash. Meanwhile, Ashish Yadav missed the podium in the men’s javelin throw, finishing fifth with his best attempt of 69.58 meters.
