India Sets Record in T20 World Cup Semifinal with Massive Score

Mumbai, March 5: The second semifinal of the T20 World Cup 2026 is underway, featuring a thrilling match between India and England. Batting first, Team India scored an impressive 253 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in their 20 overs, marking a record-setting performance at the Wankhede Stadium. This score is the highest ever recorded in a knockout match of the T20 World Cup.

India has broken the 14-year-old record previously held by the West Indies, who scored 205 runs against Australia in the 2012 T20 World Cup semifinal. This innings also ranks as the third highest in T20 World Cup history and the second highest for India. With this achievement, the Indian team has now become the most frequent team to surpass the 250-run mark in T20 internationals, having done so six times.

During their innings, Indian batsmen hit a total of 37 boundaries, including 18 fours and 19 sixes. Only Sri Lanka has hit more boundaries in a single T20 World Cup innings, with 41 boundaries against Kenya in 2007. In the 2026 T20 World Cup, India has also set the record for the most sixes, totaling 88 so far.

The match did not start smoothly for India, as Abhishek Sharma was dismissed for just 9 runs. However, Ishan Kishan and Sanju Samson quickly took charge, forming a partnership that yielded 97 runs off just 45 balls for the second wicket. Ishan scored 39 runs off 18 balls before being dismissed, while Sanju delivered a spectacular performance, scoring 89 runs off only 42 balls. Shivam Dube also contributed significantly, scoring 43 runs off 25 balls. In the final overs, Tilak Varma added 21 runs off 7 balls, and Hardik Pandya chipped in with 27 runs, including 3 fours and 2 sixes. For England, Will Jacks and Adil Rashid each took two wickets.
