Orleans, March 20: Indian badminton players Tanvi Sharma and the men’s doubles duo of Hariharan Amaskarunan and M.R. Arjun showcased exceptional skill on the second day of the Orleans Masters 2026 in France, securing their spots in the next round.
World Junior Championship silver medalist Tanvi secured her place in the Round of 16 at the Palais des Sports on Thursday. She had an impressive start, defeating Thailand’s second-seeded Supanida Katethong. Tanvi continued her strong performance by overcoming fellow Indian rising star Anmol Kharab in straight games, with scores of 21-14, 21-17. The tournament boasts a total prize pool of $250,000.
In men’s doubles, Hariharan and Arjun triumphed over Scotland’s Alexander Dunn and Adam Pringle. The Indian pair took a hard-fought first game 26-24 and dominated the second game 21-14, completing the match in just 35 minutes to advance to the quarter-finals. Meanwhile, in women’s singles, India’s Isharani Baruah defeated Canada’s Wen Yu Zhang in a challenging three-game match, winning 21-11, 14-21, 21-17 after a 53-minute battle.
Earlier, in the first round, Alarshi Kashyap faced a straight-game defeat against Singapore’s 33rd-seeded Yeo Jia Min. In mixed doubles, Rohan Kapoor and Ruthvika Shivani Gadde are set to face France’s top-seeded pair T. Giquel and Delphine Delarue, while India’s eighth-seeded Ayush Shetty will compete against Japan’s Yudai Okimoto in the men’s singles Round of 16.
Previously, Tanvi Sharma was part of the Indian team that participated in the Badminton Asia Team Championship held in Qingdao, China. India’s campaign ended when the women’s team lost 0-3 to the heavily favored Chinese team in the quarter-finals. In the same championship, Tanvi played a crucial role in India’s victory over Myanmar, winning her singles match against Thet Htar Thuzar with scores of 21-13, 21-16.
