Sam Curran May Miss IPL 2026 Season Due to Injury Concerns

New Delhi, March 20: The Rajasthan Royals have received a significant setback ahead of the IPL 2026 season. England all-rounder Sam Curran may be sidelined due to concerns over a groin injury. Curran was acquired by Rajasthan through a trade with the Chennai Super Kings.

According to a report from ESPN Cricinfo, the Rajasthan Royals will not have Curran’s services this season. He last played on March 5, 2026, during the T20 World Cup, where England faced a defeat against India in the semi-finals. At 27 years old, this would have been Curran’s debut season with the Rajasthan Royals. The franchise had traded for him from Chennai Super Kings last November. In the trade, Chennai sent Curran and Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja to Rajasthan in exchange for wicketkeeper-batsman Sanju Samson, who was recently named Player of the Tournament in the T20 World Cup.

The Rajasthan Royals would have been Curran’s third franchise in the IPL. He began his IPL career in 2019 with the Punjab Kings, followed by stints with Chennai Super Kings in 2020 and 2021. In 2023, he returned to Punjab Kings as the league’s most expensive player, fetching a price of ₹18.5 crores.

For IPL 2025, Chennai Super Kings reacquired Curran for ₹2.4 crores. In that season, he played five matches for Chennai but had a lackluster performance, scoring only 114 runs and taking just one wicket. The previous season was disappointing for the Rajasthan Royals, as under Sanju Samson’s captaincy, the team managed to win only four out of 14 matches, suffering losses in ten games.
