New Delhi, August 14: The Indian cricket team is poised to achieve a historic milestone as they prepare to play their 600th Test match against Sri Lanka at the Galle International Cricket Stadium. Under the captaincy of Shubman Gill, the match is scheduled for Saturday, August 15.
With this match, India will become only the third team in cricket history to reach this significant landmark, following in the footsteps of England and Australia.
England holds the record for the most Test matches played, with a total of 1,097 matches. Australia follows closely with 882 matches. Currently, India has played 599 Test matches, placing them third on the list, while the West Indies rank fourth with 596 matches.
In Galle, India has played a total of five Test matches, winning two and losing three. On Sri Lankan soil, India has competed in 24 Test matches, securing victory in nine and facing defeat in seven.
For the upcoming Test, the Indian team will look to its captain Shubman Gill, along with KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal, for strong performances. Gill has been in excellent form recently, while Rahul brings valuable experience from playing in Sri Lanka. Ravindra Jadeja is expected to make significant contributions with both bat and ball, having performed well in the warm-up match.
Devdutt Padikkal scored an unbeaten 142 runs in the warm-up match, solidifying his position at number three. The spin duo of Kuldeep Yadav and Jadeja, along with Manav Suthar, will test the Sri Lankan batsmen. Mohammed Siraj will lead the pace attack, supported by either Prasidh Krishna or Gurnoor Barar.
