New Delhi, March 4: Amid escalating tensions in West Asia due to the ongoing conflict between the United States, Israel, and Iran, the Indian government has initiated a review of the potential impacts on the country’s exports and imports.
Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal announced on social media platform X that a high-level consultation meeting was held with all relevant ministries, key logistics partners, and trade facilitators.
During the meeting, participants discussed the emerging global situation and its possible effects on India’s trade. The government reiterated its commitment to maintaining smooth trade operations.
Goyal mentioned that procedural flexibility would be provided to export-related authorities. Coordination with customs and port authorities will be enhanced to prevent any clearance delays. Active communication with financial and insurance institutions will be maintained to safeguard exporters’ interests.
In this context, the government has also formed an ‘Inter-Ministerial Group (IMG) for Supply Chain Resilience.’ This group will include representatives from the Department of Financial Services, Ministry of External Affairs, Ministry of Shipping, Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, and the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC). It aims to ensure effective coordination, monitoring, and swift action among various departments.
The minister further stated that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, the central government is committed to protecting the interests of traders and exporters. The goal is to ensure a stable, sensitive, and responsive business environment, allowing India’s trade to continue smoothly despite international challenges.
To assist those involved in trade, the government has launched a helpline. For any issues, individuals can email ADG1-DGFT@gov.in. Additionally, the DGFT helpline numbers 1800-572-1550 and 1800-111-550 are available for support.
