India Responds to Islamabads Actions by Removing Barriers Outside Pakistan High Commission

New Delhi, August 20: Significant changes have been made to security arrangements outside the Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi. The Delhi Police have removed traffic bollards and barricades that were previously in place around the diplomatic compound.

These barriers have long been part of the outer security perimeter of the diplomatic mission. India’s action comes at a time when diplomatic relations between New Delhi and Islamabad are already strained.

This move in Delhi is viewed as a response to recent actions taken by Pakistani authorities, who removed parking poles outside the Indian High Commission in Islamabad just days prior. Following this, India also adjusted its security measures outside Pakistan’s diplomatic mission.

Such reciprocal administrative actions have occurred in the past amid rising tensions between India and Pakistan. Both countries have periodically reduced the number of diplomatic staff, imposed restrictions on movement and access, and limited facilities associated with their missions. Thus, the removal of the outer security perimeter at the Pakistan High Commission in Delhi is seen as part of this ongoing pattern.

This development coincides with ongoing diplomatic activities concerning Jammu and Kashmir. During a visit to the region, U.S. Ambassador to India Sergio Gor described it as an integral part of India. His statement is considered significant in the current context of India-Pakistan relations.

The primary reason for the existing tension between the two nations is cross-border terrorism, with Pakistan allegedly supporting terrorist activities against India from its territory.

The deterioration in India-Pakistan relations intensified following a terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, in April 2025, which resulted in the deaths of 26 individuals. In response, India launched Operation Sindoor, targeting terrorist infrastructures in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.
