Orange Alert Issued for Six Districts in Tamil Nadu Due to Northeastern Monsoon Rainfall

Heavy rainfall is expected in six Tamil Nadu districts as an orange alert is issued due to the northeastern monsoon.

Chennai, October 17 (Daily Kiran) : Heavy rainfall is anticipated in Tamil Nadu as the meteorological department has issued an orange alert for six districts. This warning comes as the northeastern monsoon is expected to bring significant rain across the state on Saturday.

The districts of Thiruvallur, Kanchipuram, Ranipet, Viluppuram, Nilgiris, and Coimbatore are likely to experience the heaviest rainfall. The weather department attributed the wet conditions to atmospheric disturbances that have arisen following the onset of the monsoon.

In addition to these districts, Chennai and neighboring Chengalpattu may also see substantial rainfall. Other areas such as Tirunelveli, Kanyakumari, Theni, Dindigul, Madurai, Tiruppur, Vellore, and Kallakurichi are included in the forecast for heavy rain throughout the day.

Forecasts indicate that heavy rain is expected in Erode, Dharmapuri, Krishnagiri, and Salem, as well as in delta regions such as Mayiladuthurai, Nagapattinam, Thiruvarur, and Thanjavur.

The weather center predicts rain across a large part of northern, western, and southern Tamil Nadu. Specific warnings have been issued for Ramnathapuram, Ruchirapalli, Namakkal, Cuddalore, Karur, Perambalur, and Ariyalur, where heavy rain accompanied by strong winds is expected.

In the remaining parts of the state, moderate rain and high winds are likely. The warning was issued following widespread rainfall in several districts after the arrival of the northeastern monsoon.

While heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected in six districts on Saturday, the department anticipates that some areas will continue to receive rain into Sunday.

Nilgiris is expected to face heavy rainfall again on Sunday, marking two consecutive days of intense weather for the hilly district. Heavy rain is also forecast for Coimbatore, Erode, Namakkal, Ranipet, Thiruvallur, and Tiruppattur on Sunday, with warnings issued for these areas, particularly noting that Saturday’s forecast indicates more severe conditions.

The two-day forecast suggests a varied rainfall pattern across Tamil Nadu, with the heaviest rain concentrated in select districts while others experience moderate precipitation.

Chennai is expected to see heavy rain on Saturday, while warnings for neighboring Thiruvallur and Kanchipuram indicate the possibility of very heavy rainfall. The district-wise forecasts highlight the uneven intensity of monsoon rains, with most areas anticipated to remain wet and breezy throughout the day, with additional rainfall expected in many districts on Sunday.
