Security Forces Foil Infiltration Attempt in Jammu and Kashmirs Keran Sector

Security forces successfully thwarted an infiltration attempt along the Line of Control in Kupwaras Keran sector on Saturday morning.

Kupwara, October 17 (Daily Kiran) : Security forces in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kupwara district successfully thwarted an infiltration attempt along the Line of Control (LoC) on Saturday morning. Official sources reported that the incident occurred in the Jumgund area of the Keran sector.

Upon noticing suspicious activity near the LoC, vigilant troops challenged the infiltrators, leading to a brief exchange of gunfire between both sides. Currently, an operation is ongoing in the area, and further information is awaited. The official confirmation of this incident is also pending.

The LoC in Jammu and Kashmir stretches approximately 740 kilometers, traversing the districts of Kupwara, Bandipora, and Baramulla in the valley, as well as parts of the Jammu region, including Rajouri, Poonch, and Jammu.

The Indian Army is responsible for securing the LoC, which is fortified by a multi-layered security system that includes a 550-kilometer-long fence. This barrier is closely monitored to keep track of cross-border activities, smuggling, and potential terrorist movements.

In sectors like Rajouri, Poonch, Baramulla, and Kupwara, the army remains on high alert. Digital border crossing systems have been implemented at checkpoints, such as those in Poonch, to facilitate the movement of local residents.

In addition to the LoC, Jammu and Kashmir also has a nearly 200-kilometer-long international border, which runs through the Jammu, Samba, and Kathua districts. This border is secured by the Border Security Force (BSF).

To prevent infiltration, smuggling, and drone activities from across the border, both the army and the BSF are deployed. Drones are often used to drop weapons, ammunition, cash, and narcotics.
