Nagoya, September 18 (Daily Kiran) : Concerns over accommodations have prompted India to identify approximately 2,000 Indian residents in Nagoya ahead of the 2026 Asian Games. In the event of severe housing issues, these residents may provide temporary lodging for athletes and officials.
To ensure a smooth experience for the Indian delegation, a comprehensive three-tier emergency plan has been established. This initiative is a collaborative effort involving India’s Ministry of Sports, the Sports Authority of India (SAI), the Chef de Mission, and the local Indian community in Nagoya.
The first tier includes the deployment of two personnel at the airport to coordinate the arrival and movement of Indian athletes and officials. The second tier features an “Athlete Welcome Center,” staffed by three individuals who will assist the delegation with accommodation and other essential logistical needs. The third tier relies on the local Indian community, which has been identified as a potential support network for the delegation.
This emergency plan was developed after some athletes faced accommodation challenges upon arriving in Nagoya. The Indian team has implemented additional measures to ensure athletes have suitable housing, minimizing the impact of any accommodation issues on their preparations for the games. The three-tier system aims to provide immediate assistance at the airport, support at the Athlete Welcome Center, and a robust safety net through the local Indian community if necessary.
