New Delhi, March 16: India Post is set to introduce a new express delivery service that guarantees parcel and consignment delivery within 24 hours. The government announced this initiative on Monday.
The Ministry of Communications revealed that the Department of Posts (DoP) will launch the ’24 Speed Post’ service on Tuesday, March 17. This service aims to ensure timely delivery of essential parcels the very next day.
The launch event will be graced by Union Minister for Communications Jyotiraditya M. Scindia and Minister of State for Communications Dr. Chandrasekhar Pemmadasani. The program will take place at 12:30 PM in the Rang Bhawan Auditorium of Akashvani Bhawan, with senior officials from the Department of Posts in attendance.
According to the ministry, the ’24 Speed Post’ service will initially be available in six metropolitan cities: Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad. This initiative is expected to enhance express logistics services across these major urban centers.
In addition to the ’24 Speed Post’ service, the Department of Posts will also offer ’48 Speed Post’ services, which guarantee delivery within D+1 and D+2 days, respectively. These services will benefit from dedicated processing windows and priority air transport.
New features will include OTP-based secure delivery and end-to-end tracking, allowing customers to receive real-time updates on their parcels via SMS.
For business clients, the department will provide the ‘Buy Now Pay Later’ (BNPL) option, free pickup for large bookings, API integration, and centralized billing.
The ministry also noted that a money-back guarantee will be included for delays in delivery, further strengthening India Post’s premium express delivery capabilities.
Earlier this month, Dr. Pemmadasani informed the Lok Sabha that the Department of Posts is implementing several new initiatives in the parcel and e-commerce segments to develop it into a leading public logistics organization and enhance services nationwide.
These initiatives involve modernizing the parcel processing and delivery system to improve speed, reliability, and customer experience.
He also mentioned that the final stage of delivery has been reinforced through ‘Nodal Delivery Centers,’ which feature mechanized and dedicated parcel delivery arrangements.
Furthermore, the Minister stated that the Advanced Postal Technology (APT) 2.0 project has introduced real-time delivery updates, OTP-based delivery, and API integration with e-commerce companies.
