New Delhi: India and Germany have taken a significant step in strengthening their strategic partnership by signing several major Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz.
Addressing the joint press conference, Prime Minister Modi highlighted that bilateral trade between the two nations has surpassed the $50 billion mark, reaching an all-time high. He noted that over two thousand German companies are currently operating in India, reflecting strong confidence in the country’s growth opportunities.
Prime Minister Modi emphasized the increasing cooperation in technology between India and Germany over recent years. This collaboration is now materializing into joint projects and investments on the ground. He stated, “India and Germany share common priorities in renewable energy and climate action.”
To further bolster cooperation in these areas, both countries have decided to establish the India-Germany Centre of Excellence. This centre will serve as a platform for sharing knowledge, technology, and innovation. Collaborative efforts are also underway in projects related to climate, energy, urban development, and urban mobility.
The Prime Minister described a new mega green hydrogen project involving companies from both countries as a potential game changer for the future of energy. He also stressed the importance of cooperation in supply chains, with India and Germany working together to build secure and reliable systems.
Beyond industry and energy, the two leaders agreed to enhance collaboration in sports and education. Prime Minister Modi pointed out that sports will help connect the youth of both countries, while a new roadmap for higher education aims to strengthen academic ties. He extended an invitation to German universities to open campuses in India.
Chancellor Olaf Scholz highlighted the importance of a Free Trade Agreement between India and the European Union. He stated that such an agreement would unlock the full potential of India-Germany economic relations.
These developments mark a milestone in the growing partnership between India and Germany, laying a strong foundation for future cooperation across multiple sectors.
