Ganga Aarti Resumes at Dashashwamedh Ghat After 64 Days in Varanasi

The Ganga Aarti has resumed at Dashashwamedh Ghat after 64 days, restoring access to 84 ghats in Varanasi as water levels decrease.

Varanasi, October 20 (Daily Kiran) : The iconic Ganga Aarti has resumed at Dashashwamedh Ghat in Varanasi after a break of 64 days, thanks to a decrease in water levels. This development also restores connectivity between approximately 84 ghats in the area.

With the upcoming festivals of Chhath Puja and Dev Deepawali, efforts are underway to clean and decorate the ghats. Sushant Mishra, president of the Ganga Seva Nidhi, shared insights on the situation.

“Like every year, the water level of the Ganga had risen significantly. Currently, it has dropped considerably, but it remains about 10 to 15 feet above its normal level,” he explained. “The connectivity of all 84 ghats, which form a crescent shape, has been completely restored, allowing people to move freely from one ghat to another. We are also busy cleaning up the silt brought in by the floods.”

Mishra noted that preparations for the upcoming festivals are in full swing. “Following Navratri, we are gearing up for Dev Deepawali and Chhath. The daily Ganga Aarti at Dashashwamedh Ghat resumed today after being conducted for 64 days on the roof of the Ganga Seva Nidhi office during the floods. Thousands of devotees attended the ceremony at its original location today, marking a grand return.”

For the past two months, the Ganga Aarti had been held on the office’s rooftop due to high water levels. Now that the water has receded, devotees are excited to participate once again at the ghat.
