New Delhi, June 13: The Indian women’s cricket team will kick off its campaign in the 2026 Women’s T20 World Cup against Pakistan this Sunday. Under the leadership of Harmanpreet Kaur, India has historically dominated Pakistan in this format.
In their 16 T20 International encounters, India has won 13 times, while Pakistan has secured victory in just 3 matches. The Indian team is set to take the field at Edgbaston Cricket Stadium in Birmingham, determined to maintain their strong record. The last clash between the two teams occurred during the 2024 Women’s T20 World Cup, where India triumphed by 6 wickets.
Fans are eagerly anticipating a stellar performance from the opening pair of Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma, both of whom thrive in English conditions. Mandhana has amassed 239 runs in 10 innings against Pakistan, while Shafali has scored 121 runs in 4 matches.
Captain Harmanpreet Kaur’s form will be crucial for the team’s success in this match and throughout the tournament. Jemimah Rodrigues will be responsible for stabilizing the middle order, while Richa Ghosh is expected to deliver explosive performances as a finisher.
In bowling, Renuka Singh and Kanika Gaud will test Pakistan’s batswomen with the new ball. It will be interesting to see if the Indian team gives young fast bowler Nandini Sharma a chance. Meanwhile, Radha Yadav, Shreyanka Patil, and Shri Charani could shine with their spin bowling.
On the other hand, Pakistan’s captain Fatima Sana is currently excelling with both bat and ball. Recently, she scored a half-century in just 15 balls against Zimbabwe. Diana Baig could pose challenges for the Indian batswomen with her bowling.
