Manama, March 10: In light of the ongoing conflict, the Indian Embassy in Bahrain has expressed concern for the safety of Indian nationals residing there. On Monday, the embassy urged citizens to remain vigilant and adhere to local authorities’ guidelines.
The embassy has reissued helpline numbers for assistance and advised individuals to travel from Bahrain to India via Saudi Arabia.
On the social media platform ‘X’, the Indian Embassy in Bahrain stated, “Travel from Bahrain to Saudi Arabia. Special attention is being given to stranded Indian citizens, especially those holding tourist or short-term visas. The Indian Embassy in Riyadh is obtaining individual transit visa approvals from the Saudi government. Therefore, transit visa requests are currently being sent from the Indian Embassy in Bahrain to the Indian Embassy in Riyadh.”
Additionally, standard operating procedures (SOPs) for transit through Saudi Arabia have been released. Travelers must have confirmed air tickets for their onward journey to India. They are required to present a verbal/formal note issued by the Indian Embassy in Riyadh to Saudi immigration officials at the checkpoint before entering Saudi Arabia.
According to the embassy’s advice, the Saudi transit visa will be valid for 72-96 hours. During this period, individuals must leave Saudi Arabia for India. The embassy also recommended that travelers plan their journeys during daylight hours at the Saudi checkpoint. An email ID has been provided for Indian citizens requesting transit visa facilities.
This advisory comes amid ongoing conflicts in West Asia, which escalated following joint attacks on Iran by the United States and Israel on February 28. In retaliation, Iran has targeted U.S. assets, regional capitals, and allied forces through drone and missile strikes.
Meanwhile, the Bahrain Defense Force (BDF) General Command announced on Monday that its air defense systems have successfully intercepted Iranian attacks. Since the conflict began, BDF forces have destroyed 102 ballistic missiles and 171 drones aimed at Bahrain.
The BDF General Command praised the readiness and operational excellence of its troops, asserting that the country’s airspace remains secure. They advised the public to stay indoors and only venture out when necessary. The command also urged citizens to avoid affected areas and any suspicious objects, refrain from filming military operations or debris sites, and to rely solely on official sources for updates and advice.
The General Command emphasized that targeting civilian sites and private property with ballistic missiles and drones is a clear violation of international human rights law and the United Nations Charter. They stated that such indiscriminate attacks pose a direct threat to regional peace and security.
