IMD Issues Weather Alert for 31 Districts in Maharashtra, 113 Trees Down in Mumbai

Mumbai, June 25: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast widespread rainfall across Maharashtra and issued weather alerts for 31 districts. Of these, 25 districts are under a ‘Yellow Alert’ and six districts are on ‘Orange Alert’, indicating the likelihood of continuous rain, thunderstorms, and strong winds.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) reported 113 incidents of fallen trees and branches across the city in the last 24 hours. According to BMC records, there were 40 incidents in the city area, 23 in the eastern suburbs, and 50 in the western suburbs, all due to heavy rainfall and strong winds affecting the financial capital.

The southwest monsoon has now spread to Mumbai and other parts of Maharashtra, resulting in widespread rainfall throughout the state. Heavy rain has been recorded in Mumbai and the neighboring Thane district due to intensified monsoon activity over the past two days.

Districts under the Yellow Alert include Thane, Mumbai, Raigad, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, Nashik, Ahmednagar, Kolhapur, Sangli, Solapur, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Jalna, Parbhani, Beed, Hingoli, Nanded, Akola, Amravati, Bhandara, Buldhana, Gadchiroli, Gondia, Nagpur, Wardha, and Washim.

Meanwhile, an Orange Alert has been issued for Pune, Yavatmal, Latur, Dhule, Chandrapur, and Satara due to the forecast of heavy rain and adverse weather conditions.

The monsoon has become active across nearly all regions of Maharashtra, bringing heavy rain in some areas and light to moderate rain in others. The rainfall has particularly benefited Mumbai, the Konkan region, and neighboring Goa, providing relief from the prolonged heat.

Rainfall has also been recorded in several districts, including Nashik, Jalna, Parbhani, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Amravati, Yavatmal, Nagpur, and Chandrapur. Additionally, the monsoon has progressed into parts of Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh.

Meteorologists indicate that the sudden increase in rainfall is not due to a single weather system but rather the interaction of three atmospheric systems that have collectively intensified monsoon activity in Mumbai and surrounding areas.

The IMD has also projected a gradual decrease in temperatures. Over the next two days, maximum temperatures across Maharashtra may drop by 2-4 degrees Celsius before stabilizing. A gradual decline in minimum temperatures is also expected over the next four to five days.

Overall, the monsoon situation remains active across Maharashtra, with widespread and heavy rainfall in various districts. The rain has provided significant relief from the heat, and the IMD has indicated that intensified monsoon activity is likely to continue in the coming days. Residents are advised to stay updated on weather information and take necessary precautions.
