Bengaluru, October 8 (Daily Kiran) : Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT) Madras and IIT Dharwad have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at enhancing collaboration in education, research, and entrepreneurship. The agreement was formalized on Thursday, with Union Education Minister Pralhad Joshi in attendance.
Joshi congratulated both institutions, emphasizing that the MoU would pave the way for sharing academic resources, research initiatives, and innovation projects, thereby strengthening cooperation among IITs. He expressed hope that this partnership would serve as a model for other IITs and contribute to India’s global leadership in knowledge, innovation, and technology.
Highlighting his personal connection, Joshi noted that Dharwad is part of his Lok Sabha constituency. He acknowledged IIT Dharwad’s significant role in the educational development of North Karnataka. “Although IIT Dharwad is relatively new, it is continuously enhancing its academic and research capabilities,” he stated.
The minister pointed out that collaboration with a prestigious institution like IIT Madras would further bolster the fields of education, research, and entrepreneurship in North Karnataka. He described the MoU as just the beginning, stressing that its true success would depend on the future initiatives undertaken.
Joshi encouraged both institutions to set clear goals and maintain ongoing collaboration to ensure better outcomes. He remarked that IITs are among the strongest knowledge centers in the country, and their capabilities should extend beyond their campuses. “Knowledge grows when shared. Greater research is possible when capacities come together, and innovation gains momentum through collaborative efforts,” he added.
He urged IIT Madras and IIT Dharwad to launch ambitious joint research projects that actively involve faculty and students. The MoU will facilitate faculty and student exchanges between the two institutions, as well as the sharing of laboratories, libraries, research tools, and other institutional resources, allowing for better utilization of available facilities.
Furthermore, the exchange of academic publications and research reports will strengthen knowledge sharing. Joint workshops, seminars, lectures, and conferences will provide opportunities for faculty and students to explore new ideas and areas of mutual interest.
Joshi noted that IIT Madras has developed a robust framework for research, innovation, and entrepreneurship, which IIT Dharwad can leverage. He also highlighted the need for new ideas in areas like patents, technological development, startups, industry partnerships, and social innovation. This partnership is expected not only to strengthen both institutions but also to significantly contribute to the development of North Karnataka and position India as a global leader in knowledge and innovation.
