Dubai, June 30: The International Cricket Council (ICC) released its latest rankings on Tuesday, confirming that Indian spinner Shree Charni remains the world’s number one T20 international bowler. However, England’s Sophie Ecclestone and Lauren Bell have strengthened their positions in the race for the top spot following impressive performances in the Women’s T20 World Cup.
Shree Charni took 14 wickets during the Women’s T20 World Cup. Although the Indian team has exited the tournament, players from Australia, West Indies, England, and South Africa are still competing in the knockout stages, posing a potential threat to Charni’s lead.
Ecclestone has climbed one spot to third place after taking eight wickets in the tournament, while fellow English pacer Bell made an even bigger leap, rising three positions to fourth. South African spinner Nongkuleko Mlaba gained one spot and is now fifth, while Pakistan’s left-arm spinner Nashra Sandhu moved up one position to ninth.
Other notable changes in the bowling rankings include South African all-rounder Marizanne Kapp, who climbed seven spots to 14th, Scotland’s captain Kathryn Bryce, who jumped 17 places to 26th, and New Zealand’s fast bowler Bree Illing, who rose six spots to 31st.
Australian opener Georgia Voll remains the number one batter in this format, despite a poor performance in the final group stage match against India.
South African captain Laura Wolvaardt moved up one spot to jointly hold third place, while Sri Lankan captain Chamari Athapaththu climbed two spots to seventh after scoring an unbeaten century against Ireland in the group stage.
England’s opener Danni Wyatt-Hodge jumped five places to secure the 11th position. Australian player Ellyse Perry also rose five spots to 17th, while South Africa’s Anneke Dirkse climbed four places to 24th. Scotland’s Darcy Carter made a significant leap of 13 spots to reach 42nd.
No changes occurred at the top of the T20 all-rounders’ rankings. West Indies captain Hayley Matthews retained her number one position ahead of New Zealand’s Maddy Green. Among the top all-rounders, Ireland’s Orla Prendergast made the biggest jump, moving up two spots to jointly hold third place. Kapp is now in eighth, while Bryce is in 11th.
